THE BEGINNING OF THE NAME "TALUGTOG".
It all started with a sound.
The name "TALUG-TOG" was derived from the words:
Tumala-gotog - the sound produced by the metal and wheels of buffalo cart and the rocky roads
Togotog - the sound of a drum beat calling the people to assemble and unite to repair the rocky roads.
The "tumalagotog" sounds were produced all year round by:
a. the carts (karison) of merchants from neighboring towns and provinces.
b. the carts (karison) of residents delivering the rice share "abang" to the landlords.
c. the carts (karison) of residents going to the poblacion to attend town fiestas.
The sound "togotog" were activated mostly during the rainy seasons from June to November when floodwaters eroded the road
and repairs were needed.
We honor the late Capitan Rico Andres who was passionate about road repairs and also to the families of the late Segundino & Bonifacio Corpuz who were skillfull (tumatambor) in using the drum (tambor) that produced the "togotog" sound.
Should we preserve some of those sounds to unite us and remind us of our beginnings?
